Severe thunderstorm warnings lifted, mainly cloudy skies linger

A severe thunderstorm warning has been lifted for Perth County, Grey County and the Waterloo Region.

Temperatures across the region are forecast to reach between 20 C and 24 C — just below the seasonal average, according to Lauren Stallone.

“The unsettled pattern is expected to continue over the next 48 hours, with showers and a risk of thunderstorms persisting overnight into Wednesday. Those with evening plans are advised to stay weather-aware,” she said.

Tuesday night will see mainly cloudy skies, and a 40 per cent chance of showers early in the evening. A few showers will begin early evening and end after midnight. There is a risk of a thunderstorm this evening and after midnight, while winds will gust to 50 km/h. The low will dip down overnight to 14 C.

Conditions are expected to ease slightly during the day Wednesday, with mainly cloudy skies and occasional breaks of sunshine. However, another low-pressure system is set to move through the region late Wednesday into Thursday.

Stallone said that system could bring localized flooding along with additional showers and thunderstorms. Gusty winds are also expected to develop behind the system on Thursday under continued cloudy conditions.

Temperatures are forecast to gradually warm but remain slightly below average for this time of year.

Looking ahead, Stallone said unsettled weather will dominate much of the week, with periods of rain expected before a brief break arrives over the weekend. More rainfall is possible early next week.
