Plunging temperatures tonight, and more snow on Saturday

Temperatures set to plunge and another storm on the horizon, CTV Meteorologist Julie Atchison brings you your London area forecast.

The region has received it’s battering by snow, but with temperatures set to plunge and another storm on the horizon, it’s time to hunker down.

“It’s going to be cold overnight,” warned CTV London Meteorologist Julie Atchison. “Wind chills into the minus teens through the evening and then overnight wind chills approaching minus twenty.”

The Middlesex-London Health Unit has issued a Cold Weather Alert for Friday, with temperatures expected to remain very low throughout the day tomorrow.

Tonight we’re expecting a high pressure system to clear the skies and provide a sunny start to your Friday, although that chill will remain.

“Our next weather system arrives on Saturday with another snow producing system on the way. This one once again moving by to the south, bringing a swath of moisture up toward the Great Lakes with some heavy snow expected.

Projected snowfall amounts in southwestern Ontario will range from 5 to 20 centimeters on Saturday – with the possibility of mixed precipitation along the shore of Lake Erie.

Watches and warnings

Southern Huron County is under a blowing snow advisory with winds up to 60 km/h expected to kick up yesterday’s snow dump causing some limited visibility heading into the evening.

Environment Canada has also issued a snow squall warning for north Huron, as well as Grey and Bruce with snow squalls expected to roll through tonight into Friday – another 10 to 20 centimeters expected there.

Thursday night: Flurries ending near midnight then clearing. Local blowing snow this evening. Local amount 2 cm. Wind northwest 40 km/h gusting to 60 becoming west 20 gusting to 40 overnight. Low minus 12. Wind chill minus 14 this evening and minus 20 overnight.

Friday: Sunny. Becoming a mix of sun and cloud near noon. Wind west 20 km/h gusting to 40. High minus 6. Wind chill minus 20 in the morning and minus 11 in the afternoon.

Friday night: Mainly cloudy. Periods of light snow beginning near midnight. Wind becoming southeast 20 km/h gusting to 40 near midnight. Low minus 8. Wind chill near minus 15.

Saturday: Snow. High minus 2.

Sunday: Snow. High minus 4.
