Crews fighting a house fire in Byron navigating around holes in the floor

$300,000 in damages was suffered after a fire outside of Dorchester.

A house located at the corner of Commissioners and North Street was destroyed by a significant fire that broke out just before 11 p.m. last night. Fire crews responded swiftly to the blaze, which was situated directly across from Springbank Park.

Upon arrival, firefighters encountered flames pouring from the front of the building, with the fire having already spread into the roof structure. Firefighters also reported holes in floor on the main level of the home. An alert was sent out to keep crews safe.

Emergency responders confirmed that the house was unoccupied at the time of the incident.

Fire officials said it appears services, including hydro and natural gas, had recently been disconnected.

Signs posted around the property suggest the site was slated for future development, potentially as a new mid-rise apartment complex.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
