Butter thieves stopped by off-duty loss prevention officer: OSPS

An off-duty Loss Prevention Officer was successful in stopping thieves recently at an Owen Sound grocery store.

On Sunday, the officer, who was on duty at the time, was at an upper east side grocery store when they saw three men allegedly stealing multiple containers of ghee, a clarified butter.

The suspects reportedly left in a vehicle, where they went to another nearby store. The now off-duty officer was in the same store and recognized the men.

Because the officer thought the suspects would steal from the second store, he called the Owen Sound Police Service. When officers arrived, the suspects were found in their vehicle in possession of more than $1,000 of butter and $300 of ghee.

A 24-year-old and 21-year-old, both from Brampton, and a 21-year-old from Caledon are facing charges of theft under $5,000 and possession of property obtained by crime.
