Brampton man found guilty of aggravated assault in 2023 Richmond Row shooting

Justice Lynne Leitch handed down her decision inside a London, Ont. courtroom Thursday in the assault case of Andrew Kanoun.

Romone Barrington Bowen, 33, of Brampton, has been found guilty of three charges, including aggravated assault for a crime committed on Aug. 17, 2023.

The court heard that Bowen, shot Kanoun, 27, from London, eight times in a Richmond Row parking lot, after an altercation between two groups of people in which one of Kanoun’s friends was robbed of personal property.

Kanoun sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries and spent a month in hospital.

Video surveillance and cell phone data obtained from the scene and entered into evidence during the trial ultimately placed Bowen at the shooting scene.

On Aug. 17, 2023 police arrested and charged Jerome Walcott, 30, of London, with robbery/theft from a person with violence.

Justice Leitch said, Walcott’s pre-trial testimony, ultimately confirmed that Bowen was the man who shot Kanoun.

As she handed down her verdict, Leitch said “I am satisfied, beyond a reasonable doubt, that Mr. Bowen is the shooter seen in the video, and that Mr. Bowen shot Mr. Kanoun.”
