Guelph Police officer charged with assault

A police officer in Guelph has been charged with assault.

According to a media release, the Guelph Police Service received a complaint about an interaction on Jan. 13 between a resident and an on-duty officer. No details were shared about what happened.

The Halton Regional Police Service then conducted an investigation into the incident.

They charged the officer, who has not been named, with assault. Police said they were 13-year member of the force.

The officer has now been reassigned to administrative duties.

Guelph Police said their professional standards unit will also conduct an investigation into the allegation.
