Three teenagers and one adult charged after two attempted jewelry story robberies at Conestoga Mall

Three teenagers and one adult have been charged after two attempted jewelry store robberies at Conestoga Mall in Waterloo.

The Waterloo Regional Police Service said they have charged a 15-year-old from Toronto, a 16-year-old from Kitchener, a 17-year-old from Nova Scotia and a 27-year-old man from Richmond Hill with two counts of attempted robbery, two counts of disguise with intent and conspiracy to commit an indictable offence.

Police said the attempted robberies happened earlier this month.

On Feb. 1, police were called to the mall around 6 p.m. They were told six suspects walked into the mall and approached a jewelry store but ran off when a security guard intervened. Investigators believe the suspects drove a grey Honda Civic that had been stolen earlier that day in Toronto.

On Feb. 3, police were called back to the mall around 1:50 p.m. They were told six suspects drove to the mall in a silver SUV, walked into the building and then took off when a security guard shouted to close the gates to a jewelry store.

On Feb. 5, Ontario Provincial Police officers arrested four people at the Sunrise Centre in Kitchener after a jewelry store robbery in Stratford. Two stolen vehicles from the Greater Toronto Area were also seized during the arrest.

Investigators said they later connected the four people with the two attempted robberies at the mall.

Police are still trying to identify the other two people involved in the attempted robberies.
