Teen driver charged with impaired driving after allegedly speeding at more than twice the limit

A young driver from Cambridge will need to find a new way to get around as he faces several speeding and impaired driving charges.

A Waterloo Regional Police Service officer was conducting speed enforcement in the Dundas Street South and Champlain Boulevard area of Cambridge on June 16.

Around 1:55 a.m., the officer said they saw a vehicle travelling at 130 km/h in a 60 km/h zone.

When the officer stopped the vehicle, they discovered a novice driver was behind the wheel.

The driver was asked to take a roadside screening test, which he failed.

The 17-year-old Cambridge boy was charged with operation while impaired, being a novice driver with a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) above zero, being a young driver with a BAC above zero, stunt driving, speeding and careless driving.

His licence was suspended for 90 days and his vehicle was impounded for 14 days.
