Man charged in knife-point carjacking and attempted robbery

Police arrested a man they say stole a car at knifepoint and then tried to rob a gas station in Kitchener. Krista Simpson has more.

A Kitchener man is facing robbery charges after police were called to a carjacking and attempted robbery.

Waterloo Regional Police Service said a 36-year-old woman was sitting in her Honda Civic in a parking lot in the Weber Street East and Fergus Avenue area on Monday around 8:45 p.m.

She told officers a man with a knife climbed into the front passenger seat. She was able to get out unharmed and the man took off, heading north on Weber Street East.

Four hours later, police were called to a robbery in-progress at a gas station on Bleams Road and Homer Watson Boulevard.

Officers were told a man walked into the store, threatened an employee and demanded money. The suspect left when another customer entered the shop and drove off in a Honda Civic.

Ten minutes later, an officer saw a Civic being driven in the Cedarhill Crescent and Country Hill Drive area. They determined the car was the same one stolen from the parking lot.

The officer pulled the vehicle over and arrested a man.

A 26-year-old Kitchener man has been charged with robbery with a weapon and robbery with violence.
