Man arrested for breaking window and throwing salt storage box at Guelph church

A Fergus man is facing assault and mischief charges after police were called to a disturbance at a church in Guelph.

Guelph Police were called to a church in the city’s north-end just after 12 p.m. Tuesday. Officers were told a man had become angry with church staff and poured his coffee on a reception counter before smashing a potted plant. Police said the man yelled at an employee through an office window and then repeatedly threw a plant pot against the window until it broke. The employee ran out of the way to avoid being hit.

Police were also told the man picked up a salt storage box and threw it through the now broken window.

A 44-year-old Fergus man was arrested at his home later that afternoon and charged with assault with a weapon and mischief under $5,000.
