Investigators unable to enter Six Nation’s restaurant after fire causes significant structural damage

Investigators are looking into what sparked a restaurant fire in Ohsweken that caused significant structural damage. CTV’s Hannah Schmidt has the latest.

The investigation continues into the cause of a fire at a restaurant in Ohsweken, but it’s facing one big hurdle.

The team from the Office of the Fire Marshal can’t enter the Burger Barn on 4th Line.

“…It was determined that the fire caused significant structural damage to the building,” a spokesperson for the Office of the Fire Marshal wrote in an email to CTV News. “For the safety’s sake of the investigators, no one will be entering the building while we wait for heavy equipment to arrive to provide the structural integrity necessary to safely enter the building in order to continue with the fire investigation.”

There has been no word on what may have sparked the fire, around 3:35 a.m. Monday, that left a portion of the building blackened and charred.

Meantime, the restaurant is also the site of a second investigation.

Six Nations Police has also confirmed shots were fired into the exterior of the building, causing minor damage. The shooting happened 48 hours earlier, at 3:30 a.m. Saturday.

Police are still trying to determine if the two events are connected.
