Brant County’s first speed camera coming online in Paris, Ont.

Drivers travelling near North Ward Public School in Paris, Ont. will need to keep to the speed limit or face a fine.

Brant County’s first automated speed enforcement camera will become operational as of Monday, Feb. 3.

The camera was installed on Silver Street in October 2024. Since then, the camera has been in a testing and awareness phase and no fines were issued.

However, that all changes on Monday.

Fines, appeals, and payment process

If a vehicle triggers the speed sensor on the camera, a photograph of the vehicle’s licence plate will be taken. Those images are reviewed by Provincial Offences Officers and a ticket will be sent to the owner of the vehicle within 23 days, regardless of who was driving the vehicle at the time.

No demerit points are issued.

Tickets will be mailed to the vehicle owner.

According to the county the fines are:

1 to 19 km/h over the speed limit: $5 per km/h over

20 to 29 km/h over the speed limit: $7.50 per km/h over

30 to 49 km/h over the speed limit: $12 per km/h over

50 km/h or more over the speed limit: $19.50 per km/h over

The fines will also include a victim fine surcharge set out by the province.

To appeal an automated speed enforcement ticket, vehicle owners can request a screening officer review the penalty order. Owners have 30 days from the service date of the screening decision to file an appeal before a hearing officer. The appeal process can be started online.

Fines can be paid online or in person by visiting a County of Brant Customer Service Office.
