11-year-old Ont. rapper pens ode to Toronto Blue Jays

A boy from Brant County, Ont. is merging his love of the Toronto Blue Jays and rap. CTV’s Ashley Bacon takes a listen.

A young Toronto Blue Jays fan has melded his love for The Blue Birds with a budding rap career.

Felix Munce, who goes by the rap name ‘Flikity Split,’ has dropped a new song dedicated to Canada’s only Major League Baseball team as they stand on the brink of a potential World Series win.

“This season’s been their best season for a long time, so that’s what inspired me,” said the 11-year-old from St. George, Ont.

Although he’s only been rapping for about a year, Felix’s song, ‘Want It All - Let’s Go Blue Jays’ has received tens-of-thousands of views online.

“Usually my songs have some lines that have to do with sports. Baseball is my favourite sport. I love baseball,” he said.

Some of the lines in his newest hit include, “Here we go again and it’s strike three – Gausman on the mound, everyone believes,” and, “Coming in too hot, hey Dodgers, dodge this, and with all your good pitchers we don’t swing and miss.”

His mom, Beckie Munce, said her son has always loved sports and music.

“He’s just a master at lyrics and this kid knows baseball,” she said. “He can go shot-for-for with his dad about baseball all day long. He knows all the stops and so for him to follow every play of the World Series as it’s gone through, and put those lyrics thoughtfully into his song, has been really incredible.”

After releasing the song, Felix hoped it might attract the attention of his beloved Blue Jays, or at least a player or two.

“I think it’s going to pump them up,” he said. “They played it at my school assembly and everybody was cheering super loud. I think it’s getting them all ready for tonight.”

It turns out, that wish wasn’t that far out to left field.

The official Blue Jays YouTube account left a comment on his video Friday. It included a blue heart and clapping hands emojis.

“To see him getting the feedback that he is looking for and the validation that he really has a talent is just everything we could hop for,” Beckie said.
