Crews fight fire at southwest Edmonton home in cold conditions

Firefighters were called to a house fire in the Rutherford neighbourhood on Friday.

Crews were called to the 118 Street SW address at 11:59 a.m.

Flames and smoke could be seen billowing from the roof of the house.

“It did go through the whole attic,” District Chief Paul Brooks told CTV News Edmonton.

“So there will be some water damage on the second floor.”

No one was home when the fire broke out and no injuries have been reported.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

This is the second fire crews attended in south Edmonton on Friday in cold conditions.

Brooks says it’s taking a toll on firefighters.

“Things take longer. Things are harder. Crews get tired or quicker. So there’s a bit of a safety issue, but we are trained. We’ll get through it. It’s what we do.”

“We’re gonna cycle crews through quicker and try and get them home rested a little bit, because it is cold and they’re getting tired today.”
