Charges laid in death of woman on Alberta highway

A man has been charged in connection with a fatal hit-and-run north of Edmonton in 2024.

The 38-year-old Valleyview, Alta., man was arrested on May 27 and charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and failure to stop at the scene of an accident.

The charges stem from the death of a 34-year-old woman from the Sturgeon Lake Cree Nation.

The woman was found dead on Highway 43 between Valleyview and the Sturgeon Lake Cree Nation on Dec. 21, 2024.

The arrest came after a 17-month investigation that included many eyewitness statements and involved 10 RCMP detachments.
