Chemical fire breaks out at Calgary warehouse

Workers at Engineered Air in southeast Calgary had to leave the business on Wednesday morning after a chemical fire broke out on the main floor of a warehouse.

A southeast Calgary business was evacuated Wednesday morning because of a chemical fire.

The Calgary Fire Department was called to Engineered Air, at 6300 10 St. S.E., at 7:50 a.m.

Officials say equipment on the main floor had caught fire.

Approximately 100 worker escaped the building safely after being alerted by an alarm.

A second alarm was called shortly after arrival due to heavy smoke and low visibility.

Calgary Transit buses were brought in to shelter the displaced workers.

The fire was brought under control at 10:20 a.m., but fire crews remain on scene to ventilate the facility.

One individual was assessed at the scene for minor injuries, including singed hair.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
