Man wanted on Canada-wide warrant for murder arrested in Airdrie, Alta.

Alberta RCMP say an armed murder suspect wanted by Toronto police was arrested in Airdrie on Monday.

RCMP say the man was stopped for speeding in a vehicle that had illegal window tint.

In a Wednesday news release, Airdrie RCMP said the traffic stop “led to a further investigation indicative of proceeds of crime,” at which time officers attempted to arrest both the female driver and male passenger.

“During the arrest, the male passenger exited the vehicle and fled from police on foot,” RCMP said. “A foot pursuit ensued, and police successfully apprehended the male.”

Police said a loaded 40-calibre firearm was found in the man’s possession.

Though police say he gave fake identification, officers were able to determine who he really was.

RCMP say the man was wanted on Canada-wide warrants for two counts of first-degree murder and one count of attempted murder stemming from a 2018 homicide investigation in Toronto.

Because he was under 18 at the time of charges, his name cannot be released under the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

He faces more than a dozen new charges.

The driver of the vehicle, a 25-year-old woman from Burnaby, B.C., faces two charges.

Both have been remanded in custody until their next court appearance, which is scheduled for Jan. 30.
