Calgary to see cool, wet weather Wednesday, including scattered thunderstorms

A slow-moving low-pressure system will bring unsettled conditions – including cooler temperatures, stronger wind, rain and scattered thunderstorms – across central and southern Alberta on Wednesday.

The rain will continue Thursday and Friday, moving from northern Alberta to the southern border, with moisture circulating counterclockwise back into the eastern Saskatchewan border.

The bulk of precipitation over the next few days will likely fall west of the QEII Highway and south of Calgary.

Temperatures will remain suppressed until the start of the weekend and return to the low 20s by Sunday.

More intense and severe storms are possible in the eastern prairies on Wednesday but should have less energy as the week continues and the upper pattern starts to break down.

Overnight temperatures in Calgary will range from 6 C to 9 C for the next few nights, with cooler temperatures expected in the higher elevations in the Rockies.

Early Wednesday, Environments and Climate Change Canada issued special weather statements for a couple of highways in southern British Columbia due to the threat of heavy, wet snow.
