Calgary Flames waiving defenceman Tyson Barrie: report

The Calgary Flames plan to place defenceman Tyson Barrie on waivers on Thursday, according to TSN hockey insider Darren Dreger.

Barrie, a veteran of 822 NHL games, has suited up in 13 games for the Flames this season, registering one goal and two assists. He last played on Feb. 4, in a 4-3 loss against the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Barrie has missed the last two practices with the Flames, according to TSN’s Salim Valji.

The team signed Barrie to a one-year deal in the fall after a professional tryout during training camp.

The move comes after the Flames called up defenders Yan Kuznetsov and Ilya Solovyov on Wednesday.

Kuznetsov was drafted in the second round of the 2020 NHL Draft. He made his NHL debut with the Flames in 2024, playing in one game.

Solovyov has appeared in one game with the Flames this season.

Following the Four Nations Cup break, the Flames will be back on the ice at the Saddledome on Sunday, taking on the San Jose Sharks. Puck drop is scheduled for 6 p.m. MST.
