Calgary fire crews deal with 2 separate fires

A detached garage in the northeast Calgary community of Temple was destroyed in an early morning fire. Mason DePatie reports.

Firefighters and security personnel are investigating after a blaze broke out at a strip mall in Marlborough Park.

Crews were called to a Dairy Queen at 6060 Memorial Dr. N.E. on Thursday morning.

It was quickly extinguished and the damage was limited to the single business.

A property manager told CTV News that the fire began in a garbage can and wind spread the flames to the building.

There was no estimate on damages.

Shortly after that fire, the Calgary Fire Department was called to the community of Temple.

Officials say a detached garage and an RV were destroyed in the blaze. The home was also damaged, with the CFD telling CTV News that the flames likely reached the attic of the home and damaged its roof.

A neighbour’s fence was also damaged.

Four people were at home when the fire broke out. Two were able to get out on their own while the others needed help from fire crews.

Officials say they will not be able to return for at least 24 hours or a bit longer.
