Calgarians give back to WINS on Valentine’s Day to help spread the love

Some Calgarians helped spread the love on Valentine’s Day by giving back.

Dozens of volunteers, including Mayor Jyoti Gondek, spent their afternoon volunteering at the Women in Need Society (WINS).

While Valentine’s Day is traditionally associated with love and care, WINS says it’s also an especially poignant time to support their organization.

Gondek said WINS plays a critical role in helping Calgarians in need.

“Just because it’s Women in Need Society doesn’t mean that they are also using mens’ clothing or shoes or whatever it might happen to be,” Gondek said.

“A lot of the time it’s women coming in trying to get their family set up,” she added. “So any type of donations you have, especially if you have household wares or furniture, WINS could really use your support right now.”

WINS has seven thrift stores located throughout Calgary.

In 2023, it helped more than 25,000 people in Calgary.
