Water gun shuts down Barrie high school Monday morning

Police were called to Bear Creek Secondary School after a parent reported that a student was possibly carrying a firearm.

A water gun mistaken for a real firearm led to a short-lived lockdown at a Barrie high school Monday morning.

The situation unfolded at Bear Creek Secondary School after a parent contacted teachers over concerns of a student possibly carrying what appeared to be a firearm.

Officers arrived at the Red Oak Drive location, tracked down the student in class and confirmed the weapon was plastic.

Police tell CTV News the student had no intent to cause harm.

In a statement released from the Simcoe County District School Board, staff and students followed standard lockdown procedures while the incident was investigated.

The lockdown lasted about 15 minutes, police say, ending around 9:10 a.m.

No injuries were reported and officers confirmed no charges were laid.
