‘Very scary incident,’ Police warn about dangers of not clearing off vehicles after ice flies from transport-truck

Barrie police remind the public to drive cautiously behind tractor-trailers that could have snow and ice on their trailers after a scary incident Friday morning.

Police say a vehicle travelling behind a tractor-trailer on Townline Road was struck by ice that flew off the truck. The incident damaged the windshield, but luckily, no injuries were reported.

“This is a very scary incident to be involved in,” stated Peter Leon, with the Barrie Police Services, in an email to CTV News.

The incident happened between Mapleview Drive West and Dunlop Street

Leon said the truck driver kept heading north, and likely didn’t realize what happened.

“With milder weather, and sunshine, accumulated ice and be dislodged and become dangerously airborne,” police noted.

The service asks anyone who saw the incident, or has dash camera footage of it, and can provide information about the transport-truck, to contact police at 705-725-7025.
