Tractor driver crashes into car, flees scene: police

The driver of a tractor in Owen Sound faces charges and had his John Deere towed away after allegedly crashing into a car and leaving the scene late Thursday morning.

Local police say the tractor caused significant damage to a car in the city’s 1500 block of 18th Avenue East area and drove off. They say a witness tracked the driver as he allegedly blew through several red lights trying to get away.

Officers located the tractor and driver in the area of 700 block of 7th Avenue East and soon discovered the man has recently gotten his licence back after it was suspended due to an impaired driving charge. Police say the John Deere failed to have an interlock device as required, adding to the charges.

The 43-year-old driver will be without his tractor for 45 days while it sits in an impound yard as a result of the charges, which include operating a motor vehicle while prohibited, failing to remain, and failing to stop for a red traffic signal.
