Six different drivers charged with impaired operation across Dufferin county

Between June 10 and 22, provincial police in Dufferin say six people have been charged with impaired driving related offences.

Grand Valley

Dufferin OPP say they were dispatched to Scott Street in Grand Valley for a call of a fail to remain collision just before 7 p.m. on June 10.

Upon arrival, police say officers located a vehicle of interest nearby that displayed damages consistent with the collision.

Police then spoke to the driver and during that interaction, they launched an impaired driving investigation.

A 24-year-old male from Grand Valley has been charged with operation while impaired, dangerous operation and failure to stop after an accident.

Shelburne

In the evening hours of June 17, police attended a dispute call at a home in Shelburne where the complainant told police that a vehicle involved in the dispute had been driven to a nearby “licensed dining establishment.”

Officers arrived at the establishment on Colonel Phillips Drive and located the vehicle and its driver. During an interaction with the driver, police initiated an impaired driving investigation.

A 52-year-old Shelburne man has been charged with impaired operation and obstructing a plate, in relation to the investigation.

Amaranth

Another charge was laid by Dufferin OPP, also in the evening hours of June 17, just a few kilometres away.

Police say they were conducting traffic enforcement on County Road 11 in Amaranth when they observed a vehicle driving at a high rate of speed.

Following a traffic stop and a conversation with the driver, police say they observed signs of impairment and began an impairment investigation.

A 36-year-old Milton man was charged with impaired operation in relation to the investigation.

Orangeville

OPP say they were responding to a collision call in the afternoon hours of June 21, when another impaired driving investigation began.

Officers arrived at Marshall Crescent in Orangeville, where the two parties involved in the collision had already exchanged information before police were contacted.

However, by the time police got there, one of the parties had already left the scene and headed to a residence in Mono.

After speaking with the complainant, police then followed up with the other driver at home in Mono, where officers say they observed signs of impairment and launched an investigation.

A 43-year-old Pelham man was charged with operation while impaired, in relation to the incident.

East Garafraxa

Around 11 p.m. on June 21, another person ended up with impaired operation charges, Dufferin OPP say.

Police say they were informed of an allegedly intoxicated individual driving around “erratically” at a resort on County Road 109 in East Garafaxa.

Witnesses say the driver left the resort grounds in the vehicle and returned before police arrived. Once the driver was located, police allege the driver became “uncooperative and belligerent” when speaking with OPP. Officers also claim to have observed signs of impairment, which is when they initiated an investigation.

A 31-year-old Cambridge woman now faces charges of operation while impaired, failure or refusal to comply with demand and two counts of assaulting a peace officer.

Amaranth

In the late evening hours of June 22, OPP attended a single-vehicle collision call in the area of Amaranth-East Luther Townline and 20th Sideroad in Amaranth.

Officers say when speaking to the driver of the collision, they observed signs of impairment and initiated and began an investigation.

A 23-year-old Caledon woman was charged with operation while impaired and driving a motor vehicle with an open container of liquor, in relation to the investigation.
