Lifeguards return to Barrie’s busiest beaches this month, here’s what to look out for

Lifeguards will be returning to two of Barrie’s busiest beaches along the shores of Kempenfelt Bay.

Starting Fri., June 26, lifeguards will be on duty at Centennial and Johnson’s beaches from 11:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. daily.

Beachgoers will notice signage posted behind each lifeguard station clearly showing when staff will be on shift.

Minet’s Point Beach and Tyndale Beach are not occupied with lifeguards, so families planning to visit are urged to stay vigilant and keep young children within arm’s reach.

Swim buoy lines, including drop-off markers, are anchored at Centennial, Johnson’s, Minets and Tyndale Beaches. These lines mark the designated petametres recommended for swimmers.

Community-use barbeques are available at Tyndale Park and Centennial Park. They are open to the public from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily in July and August and 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. on weekends only in May, June and September to Thanksgiving.

City staff ask everyone to check the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit beach water testing results before hitting the water.

A reminder that dogs are not permitted on Barrie beaches.

Lifeguarding runs until Sept. 4.
