Fire in Barrie home sends two to hospital

Two people were hospitalized after fire broke out at a Barrie home.

Two people were hospitalized after a fire broke out in a home in Barrie early Monday morning.

Fire crews were called to the house on Columbia Road in the city’s west end around 2:20 a.m. for a fire in the basement.

An official says several other residents were inside the home at the time, but managed to escape safely. The extent of injuries suffered by the two individuals hasn’t been disclosed.

The assistant deputy chief tells CTV News crews knocked down the fire rather quickly. The cause and a damage estimate were not immediately available.

The Ontario Fire Marshal has been called in to assist with the investigation.
