Barrie snow removal continues

Road crews work day and night to dig the city out from the snow.

Barrie city crews are digging out from under the last week of snow.

Each night, crews are removing snow from certain areas of the city and building a mountain of snow at the Operations Centre on Ferndale Drive.

The removal is done in an effort to reduce snowbanks and keep the streets clear not only for residents, but for emergency vehicles as well.

Crews will prioritize arterial and collector roads, especially those with sidewalks, narrowing curb lanes and on-street bicycle lanes.

City staff say residents are responsible for removal of driveway snow windrows; the amount of snow left at the base of a driveway after the plow has been through. Snow plows cannot control the amount of snow that leaves the edge of its blade.

Downtown snow removal

Starting Sunday night, snow removal in the downtown core will take place. Snow removal will occur from 10 p.m. on Sunday until 7 a.m. on Monday. Crew will start up again on Monday at 10 p.m. and run until 7 a.m. on Tuesday.

City staff say all vehicles must be removed from metered spots or they will receive tickets and be towed.
