Number of Nova Scotians in need of primary care continues to go down: health authority

Nova Scotia’s Need a Family Practice registry has gone down more than 6,000 people, according to the health authority’s most recent update.

As of Feb. 3, Nova Scotia Health says the registry was sitting at 104,324 Nova Scotians waiting for primary care.

That number is down 6,132 people since the health authority’s last update on Jan. 7, when it sat at 110,456.

Nova Scotia Health says everyone removed from the list over the last month involved people who were attached to care or removed as a result of ongoing validation work that confirmed they have a provider.

The percentage of Nova Scotians currently on the Need a Family Practice Registry is 9.9 per cent.

Nova Scotia Health says its next update on the registry will be in early March.

Previous counts

The number of Nova Scotians on the Need a Family Practice Registry continues to decrease each month.

As of Dec. 4, 2024, 119,670 people were on the list – down 12,496 from the previous month.

On Oct. 4, 2024, the registry had 145,114 people on the list, while there were 164,489 on the registry as of Sept. 1, 2024.
