Man facing assault, firearm charges after barricading himself in Shelburne home: N.S. RCMP

A man is facing multiple charges after a home in Shelburne, N.S., was searched Monday night.

Police say a man assaulted a person at a Shelburne home on Jan. 17 and left before officers arrived.

Attempts to find the man were unsuccessful.

Around 4:30 p.m. Monday, police learned the man was at a home on Parr Street.

Police said the man was armed and barricaded inside, causing neighbours to evacuate their homes.

The Nova Scotia RCMP’s Emergency Response Team, Crisis Negotiation Team and Police Dog Services also responded to the scene.

At the time, police said they arrested two people for obstruction after they tried to get inside the home. A third person who was inside the home and then left was also arrested.

A fourth person, 28-year-old Liam Colin Cockerill, was arrested around 9 p.m.

Police say they then secured the home and executed a search warrant, seizing two firearms and a variety of ammunition.

Cockerill was remanded into custody.

The Westphal man faces 21 charges, including:

-assault

-assault with a weapon

-possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose

-careless storage of a firearm (three counts)

-possession of a prohibited firearm

-possession of a loaded firearm

-possession of a firearm while prohibited

-failure to comply with undertaking

Police say their investigation is ongoing.
