‘It’s her dream to walk’: N.S. mother fundraising to get robotic legs for daughter

A Nova Scotia family is asking for help to purchase a life-changing device for their daughter.

A Nova Scotia woman is looking to the public to help her buy robotic legs so her young daughter can walk.

Lailynne, nine, has scoliosis in her back and underwent surgery for hip dysplasia. Her biggest dream is to walk.

“I’m getting stronger,” she said. “I want to walk so bad.”

Christine Boutilier, Lailynne’s mother, said her daughter does laps with her walker at school.

“She tries her hardest,” said Boutilier, who lives in Lakeside, N.S. “She’s a very determined little girl.”

Last August Lailynne tried a Trexo, a set of robotic legs for children.

“She loved it,” Boutilier said. “She wanted to bring it home. When she was in it, she did 510 steps in 11 minutes. She was telling the Trexo, ‘Come on, let’s go.’”

Boutilier has launched a GoFundMe with a $40,000 goal to buy the Trexo for her daughter.

“I really strongly feel that if she continues to walk in this, she could walk independently,” Boutilier said. “That’s how determined she is and that’s how strong she is. It’s her dream to walk. I’m going to do what I have to make it happen.”
