Halifax man wanted for attempted murder arrested after two-month search

A Halifax man wanted on a warrant for attempted murder has been arrested after a two-month search, according to the RCMP.

Matthew Francis Coaker, 37, was arrested on Thursday at a home in the 0-100 block of Highfield Park Drive in Dartmouth, N.S. Police also seized a firearm at the residence.

“Cheyenne Tanisha Amero, 34, of Kingston, was also arrested after investigators determined she had assisted Coaker with evading police,” an RCMP news release reads.

Police responded to a reportedly injured person in the 1800 block of St. Margarets Bay Road in Timberlea around 1:35 a.m. on March 28. Officers found a 51-year-old man who had allegedly been stabbed.

The man went to hospital with life-threatening injuries.

A provincewide arrest warrant for Coaker was issued in April.

Coaker has been charged with attempted murder and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose in connection to the Timberlea stabbing. He is also facing a charge of aggravated assault.

Additionally, Coaker and Amero both face charges of:

• possession of a weapon dangerous to the public
• unauthorized possession of a firearm
• unauthorized possession of a prohibited/restricted weapon
• possession of a firearm knowing its possession is unauthorized
• possession of a prohibited weapon, device or ammunition knowing its possession is unauthorized
• possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm with ammunition
• possession of a weapon obtained by the commission of an offence
• possession of a firearm contrary to an order
• unsafe storage of a firearm

Amero is facing a charge of accessory after the fact in connection to the stabbing.

Coaker and Amero were scheduled to appear in court on Friday.
