4 people in custody after N.S. RCMP respond to armed, barricaded man in Shelburne home

The Nova Scotia RCMP says officers took four people into custody Monday night after responding to an armed, barricaded man inside a home in Shelburne.

Police said in a post on social media just before 5:30 p.m., they were responding to a report of an armed person inside a home on Parr Street.

People were asked to avoid the area.

The street was closed between George and Charlotte streets and immediate neighbours were evacuated from their homes.

Residents who remained in the area were asked to stay inside their homes as a precaution.

About 30 minutes later, police said they arrested two people for obstruction after they tried to get inside the home. A third person who was inside the home and then left was also arrested.

Police said they were working toward a “peaceful resolution” and continued speak with the man inside the home.

The man was taken into custody just before 9 p.m. and people were allowed to return to their homes.

Power was temporarily turned off in the area during the incident. It has since been restored.

Investigators remained at the scene after the man was taken into custody and they continued with their investigation.
