Saint John River still being closely monitored, Gagetown remains at flood stage

The Saint John River in New Brunswick is still being closely monitored as conditions are at a flood stage in some areas.

According to the River Watch website, the worst conditions are in Gagetown, where water levels have reached flood stage. The Jemseg River is close to flood level, with current conditions being at a warning level.

Conditions are at the watch level in Sheffield-Lakeville Corner, Grand Lake, Hampton and Quispamsis - Saint John.

In an update on Thursday, Saint John Emergency Measures Organization (SJEMO) says river levels are currently stable but are slowly trending upward toward the warning level.

SJEMO reminds residents who live near the river, in low-lying areas or flood-prone areas to:

• regularly observe water levels along their property
• secure loose items near the shoreline
• ensure sump pumps and drainage systems are functioning properly
• review personal flood preparedness plans
• stay informed through trusted local information sources

“While no flooding is anticipated at this time, residents living along the river are encouraged to remain vigilant and monitor changing water conditions closely,” read the update.
