New Brunswick man arrested for fleeing police, impaired driving: RCMP

A 40-year-old man from Bayswater, N.B., has been arrested after allegedly fleeing from police several times.

Grand Bay-Westfield RCMP attempted to stop a vehicle for a burnt-out headlight in Carter’s Point, N.B., on the Kingston Peninsula around 11:50 p.m. Tuesday.

Police say the driver fled “in a dangerous manner” and officers did not pursue.

Police tried to stop the vehicle a second time near Hampton, N.B., however the vehicle continued to evade officers, according to an RCMP news release.

“A short time later, the vehicle was located near Quispamsis. A spike belt was successfully deployed by the Kennebecasis Regional Police Force,” reads the news release.

“The vehicle then travelled to Rothesay where a 40-year-old man was arrested without further incident.”

The force says the man was arrested for fleeing from police and operating a motor vehicle while impaired.

He was later released and is scheduled to appear in court at a later date.

“Failure to pull over or stop for police when they have their emergency equipment activated poses a considerable risk to everyone on the road,” says Sgt. Ben Comley of the Grand Bay-Westfield RCMP.

“It can also result in significant penalties including fines, a criminal record, or even jail time.”
