Fredericton police officers, firefighters prepare to hit the ice for annual charity hockey game

Police officers and firefighters are preparing to face off in Fredericton this weekend for a popular annual event that supports a local foodbank.

Members from the Fredericton Police Force (FPF) and Fredericton Fire Department (FFD) will take part in the 11th annual Guns and Hoses Charity Hockey Game.

Admission for the event is free; however, donations of non-perishable food items are encouraged. The police force says monetary donations are also welcome.

All proceeds will support the Fredericton Food Bank – Greener Village.

“This year, we have a lot of generous sponsors who have donated cash and prizes to support the cause. Police Chief Gary Forward and Fire Chief Dwayne Killingbeck will be coaching their respective teams from the bench, adding to the competitive spirit of the game,” reads a news release from the Fredericton Police Force.

Organizers say they hope to surpass last year’s fundraising goal – which reached more than $9,300.

The event will also offer many off-ice activities, including:

- a chuck a puck

- a 50/50 draw

- door prizes

- a special game during intermission featuring a local U9 FYHA team

Local singer Ella Campbell will also deliver the national anthem.

“The FPF will defend its title against the FFD in what promises to be a thrilling, fast paced match,” reads the news release.

Players hit the ice at the Grant-Harvey Centre on Saturday, with puck drop at 7 p.m.
